Skincare Tips & Tricks

Hello again for the last time! I know it’s kind of sad because it’s been an interesting journey writing these. I haven’t covered everything you could possibly cover about skincare but I tried to get the main points in. So in my final BONUS blog, I will share more of my tips and tricks to make your skincare routine easier and ensure you’re not using products incorrectly.   Tip 1: apply products on DAMP skin. This is particularly aimed at products with hyaluronic acid. This is because hyaluronic acid is a humectant that draws in water from your surroundings e.g. moisture on your skin and air and takes it into the deeper layers of your skin. Therefore, if there’s no moisture to take in, it actually does the opposite and takes out  the moisture from within which can cause dry and dehydrated skin. For other products besides hyaluronic acid, applying to damp skin allows for better absorption unless product labels state to use on dry skin such as some cleansers and exfoliating ...

An Introduction to Skincare and Why It's Important

Hello and welcome to my blog where I’ll be talking everything and anything about skincare, including how lifestyle affects us and the skin!

Let's start with a fun fact: did you know that the skin is the largest organ?

That’s right. We have all this surface area on our body that is exposed to people and the environment around us, I’m sure all of us would like to keep it in its best condition. Just like with the health and wellness of our body in terms of fitness, skincare (and other factors) is important in maintaining healthy skin, especially as we age and encounter different concerns throughout our lifecycle. It is not just about applying products to look great, having a routine gives you a sense of control and it can be relaxing – a time to unwind and give yourself some "me time", plus who doesn’t love a pamper night?

If you personally know me, you’ll know that I am a freak for skincare and you might have seen related reviews and content on my socials (but let’s talk about that later). So, you might wonder how I got into skincare. Looking back on my younger self, I had pretty good skin but of course, puberty hits, and when it came to my mid-teens, I started to break out. More often, these breakouts were becoming regular and I started to become insecure about how my face looked. Are people staring at me? Why won’t they go away? Anyone who has experienced having the odd spot or so might have come across these thoughts and I just want to say, YOU ARE NOT ALONE. At the time, my skincare routine was comprised of two products that my mum gave me and I get horrified thinking about what I used to use after gaining so much knowledge about the skincare industry…never again. I started to do research on how to tackle my skin problems and gradually, I got really invested in this lifestyle which is where I am today.

But of course, having a skincare routine doesn’t only apply to those who have skin concerns nor does it apply only to the face - give your body/hands/feet -  everywhere, the love it deserves. Let’s face it, who doesn’t want baby-butt smooth skin. There are plenty of products to maintain and prevent, and you should aim to prevent rather than treat anyway because it tends to be easier – also easier said than done.

Skin is not perfect. We all have different skin. Treat it as if it’s a person. Listen to it, then give it what it needs.

As with many other sectors, the industry is increasingly producing at a faster rate, so many people tend to follow trends and try products that may not suit or work well for them as it does for others. DIY skincare on TikTok? Hmm, I’d give that a second thought before you make your skin worse…

Anyway, I hope you enjoyed my first blog post! In my next blog, I will help you create your own routine as a beginner using the most basic products and guide you on each step of the routine – making sure your work has maximised effectiveness. Until then, comment below what content you would like to see and if you liked it, let me know and share it with others too!
