Skincare Tips & Tricks
Hello again for the last time! I know it’s kind of sad because it’s been an interesting journey writing these. I haven’t covered everything you could possibly cover about skincare but I tried to get the main points in. So in my final BONUS blog, I will share more of my tips and tricks to make your skincare routine easier and ensure you’re not using products incorrectly.
Tip 1: apply products on DAMP skin.
This is particularly aimed at products with hyaluronic acid. This is because
hyaluronic acid is a humectant that draws in water from your
surroundings e.g. moisture on your skin and air and takes it into the deeper
layers of your skin. Therefore, if there’s no moisture to take in, it actually
does the opposite and takes out the moisture from within which can cause dry
and dehydrated skin. For other products besides hyaluronic acid, applying to
damp skin allows for better absorption unless product labels state to use on
dry skin such as some cleansers and exfoliating products.
Tip 2: do not over-exfoliate your skin!
Yes, exfoliating will encourage new skin cells to come out but when you overdo
it, it destroys your skin barrier – this is essential to maintain to prevent a
lot of skin concerns like redness, irritation, breakouts, and more. It’s best to
stick to exfoliating 2-3 times per week.
Tip 3: wear sunscreen NO MATTER WHAT.
Now read that again. Regardless of the weather – sunny, rainy, cloudy, foggy,
inside, outside – it is best to wear your sunscreen (no it’s not only for when
the sun is very exposed). This is the best way to reverse signs of aging as
well as prevent skin troubles like acne, hyperpigmentation, and of course, skin
cancer. Think of it like this, imagine if the sun didn’t exist, the world would
be completely pitch black. Thus, even when the skies are grey, the sun IS still
there – just behind all the clouds. You can use the UV index on your weather
app on your phone to check if it is safe to not wear sunscreen. If it’s 2 or
below, generally there is a low risk of sun damage, but it is recommended to
wear it if it’s above 2, even if you’re indoors and particularly near a window
where the UV rays can come in. Anyways rant over.
Tip 4: I mentioned in the earlier
blogs that you should use your fingertips to apply and tap in products. The
fourth (ring) finger is the lightest finger therefore it is the best one to
use, especially around the delicate eye area. But of course, you can use all or
some of your other fingers for other areas of your face.
Tip 5: don’t have any pimple patches
or can’t afford them? You can use hydrocolloid plasters found in supermarkets
and drugstores as an affordable alternative! Just cut them up to your desired
size and stick them on as usual. Pimple patches are made with hydrocolloid too which
is why you can use these. This material/plaster usually absorbs the moisture
from blisters so it works similarly with the sebum in your spots.
And that’s all for this blog. I really
hope you have enjoyed my content and learned new things, whether you came here
not knowing anything or if you knew a lot. I would like to thank you all for
reading these and interacting with my blog, although it’s part of my
assignment, it was quite fun to do since I’m talking about my biggest passions
in life. My IG DMs are always open for any questions @_nataliepang_ *cough*
shameless plug but you probably came from it anyway. This is getting a bit too
cheesy so I’ll leave it here…thank you again and keep looking after your skin!
